I’m Luke Nelson, and I’ve been managing financials for construction companies for over a decade. I know that with my experience and knowledge I can help your organization achieve its financial goals. But before we get to that, I want you to have a chance to get to know me.

I grew up on a farm in Fort Dodge, Iowa, where picking up a solid work ethic was inevitable. I studied at the University of Northern Iowa, and started my career as a controller, eventually working my way up to be the Chief Financial Officer at several different companies. My family and I (pictured above) currently live in Kansas City, MO. We love to travel and spend time outdoors together - we’re always planning what national park to hit next - and cheer on the Chiefs and Iowa State Cyclones.

I’ve been in the construction industry my whole career. I love the camaraderie of it - the fact that it takes everyone, from office staff to the folks cleaning up the job site, to bring a project to fruition, and when it’s done, something is there that wasn’t before, or is better than it was before. It’s meaningful work, and I love being a part of it.

I have experience working with contractors of all shapes and sizes all across the United States. I’ve worked with companies experiencing high growth, including M&A and market expansion, and I’ve been a part of stabilizing and turning around financially distressed companies. Over the years, I’ve built up a wide range of experience, and I’m grateful to have worked with countless great people who have taught me valuable lessons on how to be an effective CFO and team contributor. I’m also a member of CFMA (Construction Financial Management Association) which has introduced me to a strong network of mentors and peers in the industry.
